“Kansas City Stomps” – A Hot Fox Trot: Hancock’s Jazz Band: Electric Release T1-1003A

“Kansas City Stomps” – A Hot Fox Trot: Hancock’s Jazz Band: Electric Release T1-1003A

Please watch in HD!!

I recorded this one back in November, and decided to finally post it. It is both too long and too complex to be acoustically transferred, so I decided to keep it as an electrical master. It’s definitely one of the best tunes Hancock’s Jazz Band has released for SPC. Here is the instrument lineup:

1 Cornet

1 Trombone

1 Clarinet

1 Banjo

1 Piano

1 Drum Kit

1 Upright bass

The tune opens with the familiar multi-intrument breaks. Then the chorus comes in lead by the New Orleans style three horn lead. This leads into the clarinet taking a nice solo with strong rhythm section backgrounds, followed by a similar trombone solo. Then the chorus comes in again and is followed by a rucky-tuck banjo solo. This is followed by a series of cornet breaks with a harmon mute introduced by the trombone, clarinet and banjo each time. FInally the clarinet leads the last chorus. Enjoy this hot Jelly Roll Morton tune performed on an electric recording by Hancock’s Jazz Band, with all instruments played by Colin Hancock.
