Kansas City Festival of Fountains, Union Station, Sunday, June 9, 2013 w/ The Good Sam Club Band …..A Celebration of the City of Fountains Foundation On Sunday, June 9, 2013, Kansas City visitors and families will have a unique opportunity to learn about the fountains that make our city special. The KC Festival of Fountains will take place at the Bloch Fountain, in front of the Union Station, from 11:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. The music starts at 10:50 with the Good Sam Club Band.
To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the City of Fountains Foundation has organized this first-ever event, designed to showcase local fountains, encourage contributions for damaged ones and help create endowments for their maintenance. Preceding the Festival, hundreds of bike riders from all over the metropolitan area will be participating in a Fountain Ride that will begin at the Station at 8:00 a.m and end with music and refreshments for the riders.
An opening ceremony for the Festival, beginning at 1:00, will feature a marching band, introduction of guests and recognition of sponsors and major contributors to the fountains. Plans include trolleys that will leave the Station every 20 minutes, taking visitors on guided tours to many Kansas City fountains.
Vendors will offer food and drink. Multiple tents will offer activities that may include a Lego exhibit, animals from the Lakeside Nature Center, a Power-Point show of Kansas City fountains and a sales area for merchandise related to the fountains. An entertainment stage featuring childrens dance, musical groups and local bands will provide a festive setting in front of one of Kansas City’s most recognizable fountains. Amid the banners and tents will be a place for children to enjoy a Fountains Activity Book designed by a local teacher especially for this occasion.
With the help of many contributors and volunteers, we will introduce the visitors at the KC Festival of Fountains to the beauty of our fountains and the need to assist the Kansas City Parks Department in their efforts to maintain them for all to enjoy.
